Nevada's 2009 Hunt Book Available Now
Nevada Dept. of Wildlife

If you have any questions about hunting or trapping in Nevada, there is a good chance the 2009 Nevada Hunt Book, out this week, has the answer.

The Nevada Hunt Book is an annual publication put out by the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) as a resource to both resident and nonresident hunters. The magazine-style publication includes laws and regulations for big game, furbearer, upland game and migratory bird seasons as well as the dates for the upcoming big game hunting season. Also included in the Hunt Book is information on state wildlife management areas, weapons regulations, sunrise/sunset tables and many other items sportsmen would find useful for a successful hunt in Nevada.

Hunters may notice that big game quota numbers are not included in this year's book, where they have been in previous years. The books were printed before the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners set this year's quotas in an effort to expedite the tag notification process. Quotas are available on line at www.ndow.org, or hard copies are available free of charge at all NDOW regional offices.

Several stories are featured in this year's Hunt Book including articles on how elk teeth are used to age harvested elk, the growing numbers of bighorn sheep in Nevada and the crucial part sportsmen's groups play in the success of NDOW.

This year's cover art is of bull elk, entitled "Rut at the Geyser" by Nevada artist Jani Ahlvers. Ahlvers' artwork has graced the cover since 1999.

The Nevada Hunt Book can be picked up free of charge at any NDOW license agent or office. It can also be viewed and downloaded at ndow.org/law/regs/huntregs/huntbook/.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW's wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen's license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.

Bowfishing Ohio's Muddy Waters
Two teenagers equipped with bows and arrows standing up in a canoe, probably isn't the safest way to float down a river. Yet, this is how we spend most every summer day that provided little cloud cover as well as no recent rain fall. Both of these conditions are critical for a successful day of bowfishing.
