Nevada Dept. of Wildlife

Posted on: 04/06/09 [Comments?]

The Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners held a Special Telephonic Commission Meeting on Monday, April 6 at 9 a.m. to discuss wildlife legislation pending at the Nevada State Legislature.

Wildlife Commissioner David McNinch requested the special meeting at a recent Wildlife Commission meeting in Reno, stating he felt it was an important duty of the commission to review pending wildlife legislation. A number of commissioners stated that they felt that taking a formal position on legislation was an important and essential duty of the commission, and the commission unanimously approved the special meeting.

An estimated 16 wildlife bills are pending at the Nevada State Legislature. The Board may take action to support or oppose individual items of legislation.

The Special Commission meeting agenda, and language of the bill draft requests is posted on the Nevada Department of Wildlife website http://www.ndow.org/learn/com/mtg/index.shtm here.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) protects, restores and manages fish and wildlife, and promotes fishing, hunting, and boating safety. NDOW's wildlife and habitat conservation efforts are primarily funded by sportsmen's license and conservation fees and a federal surcharge on hunting and fishing gear. Support wildlife and habitat conservation in Nevada by purchasing a hunting, fishing, or combination license. For more information, visit www.ndow.org.

Georgia Hog Hunt Success
My first hog hunt was truly a day I will never forget. It was Saturday January 17, 2009 and, according to The Weather Channel, the coldest it's been in our area in three years. We were camping on the Altamaha River with a group of friends. I was wearing several layers of clothing, but it was still very cold. My husband and I walked for a couple of hours in the morning and only saw one raccoon although we saw lots of sign that hogs were in the area.
