Nebraska Offers "Smokepole" Deer Hunting Clinic
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

Posted on: 10/24/08 [Comments?]

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has scheduled a two-part "Smokepole Deer Hunting" clinic for people interested in learning about shooting and hunting deer with muzzleloading firearms at Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium on Nov. 6 and 8.

The first session, scheduled for 6:30-9 p.m. Nov. 6, will be classroom instruction covering several topics, including muzzleloader equipment, hunting strategies, deer biology, and the muzzleloader deer hunting season.

The second session, open only to those who attended the first session, will be range instruction on muzzleloader shooting. It will be 1-4 p.m. on Nov. 8. Participants may bring their own equipment or borrow a muzzleloader to shoot.

Aaron Hershberger an outdoor education specialist with the Commission, said interest in muzzleloading continues to grow. It offers the hunter an opportunity to extend his deer hunting season and enjoy the extra challenge involved in shooting a muzzleloader.

Space is limited for the free program and must be reserved by calling the aquarium at (402) 332-3901. Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium is located south of Gretna on Highway 31, adjacent to Schramm Park State Recreation Area.

First Tennessee Muzzleloader Deer
This picture is of my nine year old son Caleb with his first deer taken in 2008 on our land in Wayne county Tennessee. He took this deer with my .50 caliber muzzleloader on the second day of our muzzleloader season.
