Nebraska Gifford Point WMA Hunt Apps Due Aug 15th
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

Posted on: 08/12/09 [Comments?]

Deer hunters have until Aug. 15 to apply for special access permits for hunting at Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area (WMA) this year, according to Pat Molini, southeast district wildlife manager of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

A drawing for the permits will be held Aug. 19 if more than 200 applications are received.

Hunters may apply for the permits at Commission offices in Lincoln and Omaha, as well as Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium and Schilling WMA.

The special access permits are only available to holders of the following deer permits: statewide archery, statewide muzzleloader, youth deer, and Season Choice Area 21. Successful applicants will be issued a key for the access gate to the WMA. They are allowed onto the WMA beginning Sept. 1 to scout and put up tree stands. They can hunt during the legal season for their deer permit.

Deer hunters may apply as "buddies," which ensures both or neither hunter will draw an access permit. Only two people may apply as buddies and both applications must be submitted in the same envelope. A buddy permit does not allow party hunting. Each individual must harvest his or her own deer.

The hunting dates are Sept. 15-Jan. 15, 2010. All regulations relating to season dates and weapon types apply, except that archers may hunt with archery equipment during the November firearm season. Centerfire weapons are prohibited. http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/default.asp

Central Kansas Buck
This Central Kansas Buck was shot on opening weekend with my father, Tom Williams near Tescott, Kansas. I walked approximately ΒΌ mile to get into position, in water way, at the end of a wheat field. My father went to the top of the wheat field to get into position at the other end, 1/2 section of grass and wheat fields. Deer must have noticed my father during the time he was getting into position.
