Nebraska Archery Turkey Season Began Oct 1st
Nebraska Game and Parks Commission

Hunters out scouting for deer this fall probably will see some turkeys. Why not also carry a turkey permit, bag a bird and put food on the table?

The 2008 archery fall turkey hunting season opened Oct. 1 statewide. The shotgun season opens Oct. 11.

Fall turkey hunting regulations have remained the same from last year, allowing for two permits per hunter and two birds per permit. Those permits may be two archery, two shotgun or one of each. Landowners may have two permits, only one being a landowner permit.

There are plenty of birds available, too. The state's turkey population has increased 400 percent since 2002.

Permits may be purchased online at OutdoorNebraska.org. They cost $24 for Nebraska residents and $86 for nonresidents. A habitat stamp is required of all nonresident turkey hunters and residents age 16 and older. There is no minimum age requirement for turkey hunters.

The archery season will be Oct. 1-Nov. 14 and Nov. 24-Dec. 31. The shotgun season will be Oct. 11-Nov. 14 and Nov. 24-Dec. 31. The seasons are closed during the firearm deer hunting season, Nov. 15-23.

Hunters filling out application forms to buy permits are asked to submit current e-mail addresses. The Commission uses e-mail surveys to estimate turkey harvest and determine hunter opinions about future hunting opportunities.

An Amazing Oregon Elk Season
Elk season 2007 was a great year for my party. I had been looking forward to it for many months. We only draw this tag in Oregon every 4-5 years, so when we found out the results of our draw, I was ecstatic to say the least. So, I began getting ready after archery season was done. I was feeling pretty lucky, since I was the only woman in our group to get a mule deer during archery season. Not even my husband got one, so I knew the pressure was on during rifle elk season.
