Montana Offers Reward for Elk Poaching
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks

Posted on: 08/04/08 [Comments?]

On Nov. 23, 2007, someone shot a bull elk and left it to waste on the Jansen Block Management Area north of Billings. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens believe others witnessed the crime, so the department is offering a reward of as much as $1,000 for information.

Poaching, which includes illegally killing wildlife or deliberately killing game and leaving it to waste, is a crime against all Montanans. Sportsmen are an important source of information about crimes they may witness while in the field.

Anyone who has a lead about last November's poaching crime may call 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668) to speak to a warden and qualify for a reward.

1-800-TIP-MONT is a toll-free number where people can report violations of fish, wildlife or park regulations. Callers may remain anonymous. It is similar to the well-known Crimestoppers program and offers rewards for information resulting in apprehension of persons who abuse Montana's natural, historic or cultural resources.

Successful Muley Archery Hunt
My husband and I always take the first two weeks of archery season off work, so we can get the upper hand on the animals. This year however, Darren had to work out of state the first week, so he didn't even get to hunt, and I ventured out on my own. We had been getting a lot of promising pictures on the game camera, but none came in while I was there that I wanted.
