Montana Offers Reward for Elk Poaching
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks

Posted on: 08/04/08 [Comments?]

On Nov. 23, 2007, someone shot a bull elk and left it to waste on the Jansen Block Management Area north of Billings. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens believe others witnessed the crime, so the department is offering a reward of as much as $1,000 for information.

Poaching, which includes illegally killing wildlife or deliberately killing game and leaving it to waste, is a crime against all Montanans. Sportsmen are an important source of information about crimes they may witness while in the field.

Anyone who has a lead about last November's poaching crime may call 1-800-TIP-MONT (1-800-847-6668) to speak to a warden and qualify for a reward.

1-800-TIP-MONT is a toll-free number where people can report violations of fish, wildlife or park regulations. Callers may remain anonymous. It is similar to the well-known Crimestoppers program and offers rewards for information resulting in apprehension of persons who abuse Montana's natural, historic or cultural resources.

Pennsylvania Whitetail Deer & Black Bear
The whitetail deer was a 173 lb 8 pointer I harvested on public land in Pike County, Pennsylvania with archery equipment. The black bear was 150 lbs, and harvested on public land in Pike County, Pennsylvania with a 12 gauge 870 Remington using 2 3/4 inch Remington Premier Copper Solid Sabot Slugs. This was the second Pennsylvania black bear I have taken in 10 years in the Commonwealth.
