State Wildlife Agency Investigating License Fraud
Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks

Posted on: 11/01/05 [Comments?]

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) is currently investigating a number of cases involving license fraud, according to MDWFP officials.

"We examine license sales reports on a monthly basis," said James Dixon, Director of Program Integrity and Compliance for the MDWFP.

"Anything we observe that appears to be questionable, we try to address as quickly as possible."

According to Dixon, the concern coming from senior management is about individuals who are non-Mississippi residents making false applications to obtain resident hunting and fishing licenses.

Section 49-7-21, Paragraph 7, of the Mississippi Code of 1972 states that any person who obtains a license under an assumed name or makes a materially false statement to obtain a license is guilty of a felony and shall be subject to a fine of up to $2,000 or may be imprisoned for a term not to exceed one year, or both. The hunting privileges of such individuals can also be revoked for a specified length of time.

Department officials also want the public to know that conservation officers will be intensifying license checks in an effort to corral these offenders.

South Dakota Muley
This is by far the best deer I have shot! It is a clear 8 x 5, but there are actually 3 points on the left side that you can hang a ring off of (for boone and crockett scoring). So for B & C scoring it would be a 8 x 8. My taxidermist measured it and said it scored 205 with about 14 points in deductions (two sticker tines and one unmatched split tine on the back left fork). I have hunted the same area in NW South Dakota for over a dozen years. It is public land and has always been productive.
