Mississippi Bowhunters Can Win by Helping MDWFP
Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife

Posted on: 10/06/08 [Comments?]

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is gathering statewide Buck:Doe and Doe:Fawn ratios by using bowhunter observations. We are asking bowhunters to record all deer observed while hunting, the amount of time spent hunting, and the counties where the hunts occurred.

If you want to assist in collecting this data, please download a deer observation book from mdwfp.com/deer or email your address to williamm@mdwfp.state.ms.us, to request a book or call 601-432-2199. Please include "Deer Observation Book" in the subject line if emailing your request. Record the appropriate data during the 2008 archery season and return the book by December 1st to the MDWFP. Results of the observation data will be posted on mdwfp.com/deer after analysis is complete.

In 2007, Mark Bernegger of Southern Outdoor Technology in West Point donated a Sportsman's Condo deer stand, $1000 value, which was given away in a random drawing of observation books returned from the 2007 archery season. Michael Moses of Terry won the stand. A random drawing will be held again this year from observation books returned by December 1st. This year, five prizes have been donated for the drawing. Prizes include a Sportman's Condo, donated by Southern Outdoor Technology; a Millennium climbing stand, donated by Hunting Solutions, Inc.; a Millennium hang-on stand and stick ladder, donated by the Mississippi Bowhunters Association; a Double Bull blind, donated by Primos; and a suit of Mossy Oak camo donated by Mossy Oak. Winners will be notified by mail.

Saskatchewan Black Bear Bowhunt
Back in 1996, my Uncle Ron Schira, noticed that I was very interested in hunting. I was 14 soon to be 15 years old. I had hunted with rifles and shotguns since I was 12 with my dad. But never with a bow. I found it amazing that most of the trophies hanging in my uncles houses were taken at under 25 yards with a bow. I convinced my mother to buy me a bow with some money my grandmother had given us for Christmas.
