Mississippi Dept. of Wildlife

Posted on: 06/12/09 [Comments?]

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks reminds hunters that for the 2009 alligator hunting there are hunting opportunities on both public waters and private lands.

There are two public waters zones open to limited alligator hunting opportunities: (1) Pearl River/Ross Barnett Zone near Jackson, Mississippi and (2) Pascagoula River Zone in Jackson County. Applications are limited to Mississippi residents 16 years of age or older. The public waters season application deadline is June 15.

A private lands alligator hunting season will be open September 18-October 4 in the following counties: Wilkinson, Adams, Jefferson, Claiborne, Warren, Issaquena, Washington, Humphreys, Holmes, Yazoo, Hinds, Rankin and Madison. The deadline for private lands applications is July 1.

There are additional requirements that all applicants should consider before applying for alligator hunting. For more information and instructions on alligator hunting opportunities in Mississippi visit: home.mdwfp.com/wildlife/species/alligator/default.aspx.

Arizona Muley
It took me four days to get close to this Arizona muley buck. On the last day of the hunt, I shot him at about 400 yards, with my 270 that I have had since 1967.
