Licensed Bay State archers brought home the venison to the tune of 2,871 deer harvested during the statewide six week season, according to preliminary figures compiled by MassWildlife's five District offices. District staff contacted check stations across the state to generate the preliminary tally.

Western District stations reported 303 deer checked; Connecticut Valley stations, 407; Central District 697; Northeast District 502 and Southeast District 962. The early figures are slightly behind the 2001 record setting archery total of 2,914 and will likely rank as the second or third highest archery kill ever when finalized.

Bow and Arrow Idaho Bull Moose
I was very fortunate to draw a once in a lifetime Idaho Bull Moose tag this year. My area was just west of Yellowstone National Park, on the Idaho side along the south fork of the Snake river. I elected to stick it out with my bow and arrow, passing up many Bulls that I could have easily shot with a rifle. After 16 days and many many miles of travel the results proved to be colossal.
