Maryland DNR Expands Hunting Opportunities
Maryland Dept. Of Natural Resources

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Wildlife and Heritage Service has partnered with the Bainbridge Development Corporation (BDC) to expand archery hunting opportunities in Cecil County. Beginning Saturday, December 29, 2007, the BDC will allow archery hunting for deer on their 1,000-acre property in Port Deposit.

"Deer hunting remains the singularly most effective tool for managing abundant deer populations," said Maryland Department of Natural Resources Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul A. Peditto. "Maintaining a deer herd in balance with the environment and the residents of Maryland remains a priority," he added.

Recognizing the impacts of an increasing deer population, both upon the landscape and their plans for future management of the property, the BDC entered into a Cooperative Wildlife Management Area Agreement (CWMA) which will allow regulated archery hunting of white-tailed deer on their property as a population management tool.

Interested hunters must obtain a free seasonal permit and make a daily reservation to access the property through the Gwynnbrook Managed Hunt Permit office, located at 3740 Gwynnbrook Avenue in Owings Mills. Reservations may be made up to eight days in advance. Office hours to obtain a seasonal permit or make a daily reservation, either in person or over the telephone at 410-356-9272 are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Bow and Arrow Idaho Bull Moose
I was very fortunate to draw a once in a lifetime Idaho Bull Moose tag this year. My area was just west of Yellowstone National Park, on the Idaho side along the south fork of the Snake river. I elected to stick it out with my bow and arrow, passing up many Bulls that I could have easily shot with a rifle. After 16 days and many many miles of travel the results proved to be colossal.
