Louisiana Suggests Amendment to Deer Season
Louisiana Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries

Posted on: 03/07/07 [Comments?]

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) added two amendments to the resident small game and deer seasons notice of intent.

The first amendment would allow a special youth deer season on private lands. During this special youth season, hunters 15 years of age and younger would be allowed to deer hunt with a 20-gauge shotgun using deer slugs during the muzzleloader season.

The next amendment would adjust the deer hunting season dates in Area 2. The amendment would keep the 79 day total deer season, but split the number of days by giving the with or without dogs season 40 days and the still hunt season 39 days in odd numbered years. In even numbered years, the still hunt season would total 40 days and the with or without dogs season would total 39 days.

Public hearings will be held throughout the state during March. Comments will also be accepted at regularly scheduled LWFC meetings in April and May. Hunters may also submit written comments about the proposed amendments until the end of April to David Moreland, Wildlife Division, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898.

California Kern River Buck Hunt
I was drawn for the late season Kern River Buck hunt in California and this is what I was able to harvest. I was hunting with my very experienced husband (Kevin Newlen) and 2 small boys Seth (5) and Lil' Kevin (7) year olds.
