Deadline Nears for Louisiana Turkey Lottery
Louisiana Dept. of WIldlife and Fisheries

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries 2008 turkey lottery application deadline for both the youth and regular lottery turkey hunts is Feb. 8.

The youth and regular turkey lottery applications can be found online at www.wlf.louisiana.gov/hunting/regulations/wma/lotteryhunts/ or any LDWF regional office.

The youth turkey lottery hunts will feature guided hunts on 12 Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) including Ben's Creek, Big Lake, Fort Polk, Jackson-Bienville, Loggy Bayou, Sherburne, Sicily Island, Spring Bayou, Thistlethwaite, Tunica Hills, Union and West Bay WMAs. Applicants for the youth hunts must be between 8 and 15 years old. LDWF is selecting approximately 100 youth hunters for this year's youth lottery turkey hunts.

"The youth turkey lottery hunts are guided hunts so the kids have a great chance of encountering a turkey," said LDWF Upland Game Manager Fred Kimmel. "Also, the youth lottery hunts occur before the regular turkey season and hunting pressure starts."

The general turkey lottery hunts will be held on 10 WMAs including Bayou Macon, Clear Creek, Dewey Wills, Loggy Bayou, Sabine, Sherburne, Sicily Island Hills, Tunica Hills, Union and West Bay WMAs. LDWF is selecting more than 850 hunters for this year's regular lottery turkey hunts.

For more information, contact Fred Kimmel at 225-765-2355 or fkimmel@wlf.louisiana.gov.

South Dakota Muley
This is by far the best deer I have shot! It is a clear 8 x 5, but there are actually 3 points on the left side that you can hang a ring off of (for boone and crockett scoring). So for B & C scoring it would be a 8 x 8. My taxidermist measured it and said it scored 205 with about 14 points in deductions (two sticker tines and one unmatched split tine on the back left fork). I have hunted the same area in NW South Dakota for over a dozen years. It is public land and has always been productive.
