The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will host its popular Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) workshop May 4-6 in London, Kentucky.
Registration is now underway for women 18 and over, who are interested in taking the weekend off and experiencing the joys of fishing, hiking, archery and firearms shooting, outdoor cooking, plant identification and many other outdoor activities. Is it time – past time – for you to take a break, and enjoy a spring weekend outdoors doing what you want to do?
The BOW program helps women learn the basic skills of hunting, fishing and boating-related activities in an intimidation-free, supportive environment.
This workshop is for adult women who might like a little adventure, build some relationships with other women who share the same interests, and want to have fun in a hands-on approach to learning or improving their outdoor skills.
"I promise it will build confidence, teach you things you never knew about Kentucky wildlife, and be an experience you'll go home and talk about for weeks with your family and friends," said Kentucky BOW Program Coordinator Beth Spivey-Minch.
"We're especially excited to offer this workshop for the first time in the southeastern Kentucky area," she added. "I hope it will give women in that area more opportunity to attend."
"Some of the local businesses and people are really helping us to make this a special event, and highlight the outdoor opportunities Laurel County and this region offer," Spivey-Minch continued. "We greatly appreciate that support."
Although the workshop falls on Derby weekend, participants will be able to watch the Run for the Roses as the tradition for many Kentuckians dictates.
The weekend-long workshop will be held at the Feltner 4-H camp near Levi Jackson State Park. The workshop fee is $130 for four class sessions, lodging and meals from Friday evening through Sunday morning. Participants must register by April 23, either by returning a paper registration form, or registering by phone with a credit card.
