Kentucky DFW Celebrating Diverse Wildlife
Kentucky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Resources

Posted on: 04/11/08 [Comments?]

The Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort is celebrating Kentucky's diverse wildlife April 22 -26. Join the Salato staff for a week full of activities, games and programs. You can make bluebird nest boxes, take a hike, remove invasive plants with the Salato team, or even catch critters at the Dragonfly Marsh. Visit our website at fw.ky.gov for a full listing of special events celebrating Earth Day.

Once again, the Salato Center will be giving away free trees to the first 500 visitors who visit on Earth Day, April 22. The first 500 families will receive a burr oak or redbud sapling. These trees can help replenish habitat and provide an additional food source for Kentucky's wildlife. In addition to giving back to Kentucky's resources, you will also add beauty to any landscape. Limit one tree a family while supplies last.

For more information about Salato programs or upcoming events, visit our Internet site or call 1-800-858-1549, ext. 331. The Salato Center, operated by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, is located on U.S. 60 in Frankfort, 1.5 miles west of U.S. 127. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The Center is closed Sundays, Mondays and state holidays.

Rhode Island Youth Turkey Hunt Success
Well it's that time of year and in the state of Rhode Island a 2 day junior season was offered 4/26 and 4/27. On opening day 4/26, 13 year old Wyatt Detonnancourt hit the woods with his dad and managed to hit the call and bag this 16 3/4 pound 10" bearded gobbler, sporting 1" plus spurs. Not bad for his first day out!
