Deer Hunters Urged to Donate Venison 11/07/03
Venison is an abundant natural resource in Indiana. Hoosier deer hunters put
around 6 million pounds of venison on the table each year. DNR officials

Hunting Heritage Partnership Grant Awarded 09/19/03
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has awarded the Indiana
Department of Natural Resources a $59,750 grant from its Hunting Heritage
Partnership to launch a pilot program to help introduce hunter education

Deer Season Forecast 09/12/03
Indiana's deer hunting season gets underway soon with the launch of archery
season on Oct. 1. While deer biologists are predicting that the number of
deer taken by hunters will be similar to previous years, Indiana hunting
safety experts are anticipating a significant drop in the number of hunting

2002 Deer Herd Reduction 11/25/02
This year, fourteen state parks and one nature preserve are sites of a controlled deer herd reduction Nov. 18-19 and Dec. 2-3. Volunteer hunters assist the DNR in reducing the size of the deer herds, which have grown too large to be supported at these parks. The goal of the deer herd reduction is to help restore and maintain the ecological balance in the parks. [Comments?]

Controlled Deer Herd Apps 07/01/02
Applications are now available to participate in a controlled deer herd reduction in 14 Indiana state parks and one nature preserve. The reduction will take place on Monday, Nov. 18; Tuesday, Nov. 19; Monday, Dec. 2; and Tuesday, Dec. 3. The 14 state parks are Chain O'Lakes, Clifty Falls, Harmonie, Lincoln, McCormick's Creek, Ouabache, Potato Creek, Shades, Shakamak, Spring Mill, Tippecanoe River, Turkey Run, Versailles and Whitewater Memorial. Twin Swamps Nature Preserve also is included in the herd reduction program this year. "This program is successfully restoring ecosystems in state parks that were damaged for many years by an overpopulation of white-tailed deer," said John Goss, DNR director. [Comments?]

Licenses Now Available Online 02/13/02
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources and accessIndiana, the state's official web site, have teamed up to offer all Indiana resident and non-resident hunting, trapping and fishing licenses on-line. Trout/salmon, waterfowl and game bird stamps are also available on DNR's web site. There is a "convenience" charge of $1.00 and a processing fee for ordering Indiana licenses on-line.
