Mississinewa Reservoir will host a free, non-competitive shooting event for kids at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19.

Event activities are intended for youth ages 9 to 17, who have never used a firearm, but more experienced youth are welcome. Participants must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration will take place from 6:30 to 6:45 p.m. at the Miami Recreation Area, located near the mooring area.

Participants will receive firearm safety equipment and instruction, and all firearms and ammunition will be provided.

Prizes will be awarded.

Additional information about shooting and hunting at the property and throughout Indiana will be available.

The event is free after paying the standard gate fee of $5 for in-state and $7 for out-of-state vehicles.

California Trophy Blacktail Buck
The buck was on a dead run with a doe. He stopped to look at me after I shouted "Oh S*#@!" He was standing broad side at 60 yards. I shot him just behind his front shoulder, taking out the lungs and dropping him in his tracks. My advice, stay alert and always be ready to shoot, you never know when opportunity will knock and how long or short it will last.
