The Illinois Conservation Foundation announced the winners of the 2008 ICF Youth Achievement Scholarships, an outreach program recognizing high school juniors and seniors in Illinois for their work in and dedication toward preserving, promoting, enhancing or supporting natural resources conservation.
Each of the nine students selected for the awards will receive a $1,000 scholarship to be presented at the annual Illinois Outdoor Hall of Fame Banquet on February 9 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. The scholarship program is supported through funds raised at the banquet.
The Illinois Outdoor Hall of Fame was initiated in 2002 to honor people who have made significant and lasting contributions in protecting and enhancing Illinois' natural resources for future generations. Tickets for the banquet are available by contacting the ICF at 217/785-2003.
This year's scholarship winners are:
Jackson Andel of Athens, a junior at Athens High School
Samuel Andel of Athens, a junior at Athens High School
Lucy Chmielewski of Chicago, a junior at Von Steuben Metropolitan Science Center, Chicago
Yasmin Darwish if Chester, a senior at Chester High School
Ryan Munsterman of Onarga, a senior at Crescent-Iroquois High School, Crescent City
Amelia Schoeneman of Rock Island, a senior at Rock Island High School
Morgan Wiechmann of Sleepy Hollow, a senior at Dundee-Crown High School, Carpentersville
Ross Wilken of Danforth, a junior at Iroquois West High School, Gilman
Ryan Wolber of Rock Island, a senior at Rock Island High School
