Description: The Recreation Area lies within four counties, north and northeast of downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It consists of 16 land units along a 48-mile stretch of the Chattahoochee River. In addition to providing recreational activities such as fishing, hiking, picnicking, and boating, the park contains a wide variety of natural habitats, flora and fauna, nineteenth century historic sites, and Native American archeological sites. Directions: Car - Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area From I-285 - Take exit 27 GA 400 North (Dahlonega) North 5 miles to exit 6, Northridge Road. Turn right and cross over GA 400 then right onto Dunwoody Place. .5 miles and right onto Roberts Drive. .7 mile on Robert's Drive and right onto Island Ford Parkway, park entrance. From GA 400 North - Take exit 6, Northridge Road. Stay in the right lane and cross over GA 400 onto Dunwoody Place .5 miles to Roberts Drive turn right. .7miles on Roberts Drive, park entrance will be on your right (Island Ford Parkway). From GA 400 South - Take exit 6, Northridge Road. Stay in right lane and cross over GA 400 and Northridge onto Dunwoody Place. .5 miles to Roberts Drive turn right. .7 miles on Roberts Drive, park entrance will be on your right (Island Ford Parkway).
