Hunters, outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife buffs, take note: the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife will host an advanced Whitetail Deer School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28 in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Auditorium, Richardson & Robbins Building, 89 Kings Highway, Dover.
Presented by the Division and the Delaware Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association, this highly acclaimed seminar will feature national speaker Kip Adams, a certified wildlife biologist and director of QDMA's REACH program. In addition to a discussion of whitetail breeding biology and behavior, Adams will cover deer sounds and vocalizations, markings, tracks and scents left behind, as well as aging and assessment of deer on the hoof.
Delaware biologist and regional manager Rob Hossler will discuss the Delaware's deer management system, population studies, aerial surveys, managed hunts and updates on the current season. Craig Rhoads will share the results of his study of deer movement during hunts. Game diseases, habitat improvement tactics for individuals and clubs and the basic principles and philosophy of the QDMA will also be discussed.
Certification of continuing education credit for attendance will be of special interest to Delaware Master Hunters and new candidates for the DMH program. Participants in previous QDMA seminars have been extremely enthusiastic about the quality, depth and value of the information presented. One of the most frequently heard comments: "I wish I had known this stuff 20 years ago."
The course is free of charge and open to the general public. Parking is available behind the Richardson & Robbins Building. To get into the parking lot from Route 13, go west on Loockerman Street and turn right at the light next to the Dover Post Office.
