Deadline to Apply for Big Game Hunts is June 2, 2006 05/15/06

DFG Announces Tule Elk Capture Set for Concord Naval Weapons Station 03/24/06
The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will begin relocating a 30-year-old Concord-area tule elk herd to free-range public lands Feb. 13. DFG established the herd at Concord Naval Weapons Station in the mid-1970s to supply animals for new or existing herds throughout the state. The four-day operation will move approximately 46 animals to herds in Lake, Colusa, and Solano counties. [Comments?]

CWD Checkpoints Serve to Educate Hunters 12/14/05
Department of Fish and Game (DFG) wardens stopped 142 cars and wrote 30 citations for Chronic Wasting Disease importation violations at statewide checkpoints this season. DFG wardens operated a series of checkpoints on two days, Oct. 25 and Nov. 20, to enforce compliance with regulations to prevent the introduction of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) into California during hunting season. The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will provide hunting opportunities on the Chimineas Unit of the Carrizo Plain Ecological Reserve in 2005/2006, including additional opportunities for mobility-impaired hunters. During the appropriate seasons, walk-on hunting for dove, rabbits, quail, and wild pigs will be limited to Wednesdays and Saturdays during the first half of September and throughout the months of December, January and February.
