Black Bear Hunter Fined for Shooting Grizzly Bear 06/20/03
Being sure of your target is one of the fundamental rules of safe hunting. Violating this rule can cost hundreds of dollars and a great deal of embarrassment. Mitchell Brian Yarrington found this out May 26 when he went black bear hunting west of Thermopolis. Yarrington mistakenly shot and killed a 5-year old male grizzly bear weighing approximately 350 pounds thinking that he had taken an uncommon, blonde-phased black bear. [1 Comment]

Young Male Grizzly Euthanized West of Cody 05/23/03
Receiving a reward is usually a good thing. If you are a large predatory animal like a bear, obtaining a human food reward could cost you your life. Such was the case this past week when wildlife biologists decided to euthanize a young grizzly bear frequenting the Pahaska Teepee Lodge west of Cody. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks reminds hunters and anglers that March 1 is the beginning of the new fishing and hunting license year. Current fishing and hunting licenses expire on Feb. 28, except for licenses that cover furbearer trapping and mountain lion hunting.
