A Campbell River court has found three men guilty of illegal hunting, under the Wildlife Act. The charges were laid after a joint investigation by Campbell River conservation officers and members of the Conservation Officer Service’s Special Investigations Unit.
Three local men, Ralph Edward Wilson, Randy Larry Chickite and Curtis Michael Blaney, were fined a total of $3,100 after pleading guilty to several charges, including hunting black-tailed deer during prohibited hours with a light near Campbell River on three separate occasions in 2001. The men are now prohibited from being in a motor vehicle containing flashlights or other illuminating devices, firearms, bows, ammunition, arrows, or dead wildlife between one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise, for a period of two years.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a fourth man, Andrew Stanley Paul. Paul is facing 10 charges under the Wildlife Act in connection with the investigation.
Hunting with a light during prohibited hours (between one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise) poses a significant risk to public safety.
