Cougar Hunting Season Closes
British Columbia Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection

Posted on: 02/02/05 [Comments?]

The Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection has closed the cougar hunting season in East Kootenay. The closure took effect at midnight Jan. 20, 2005.

The closure is guided by the regional cougar management program to reduce the potential for over-harvesting of the cougar population in the area. Typically, the season closes 72 hours after public notification once the quota of 20 female cougars has been reached.

The closure will cover the following Wildlife Management Units: 4-01 to 4-05, 4-20 to 4-26, 4-34 to 4-37 and 4-40.

The cougar pursuit-only season will remain open until February 28, 2005. For details on this season, please refer to the 2004/05 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis.

New State Record Alligator for Georgia
I tell ya'll it was the fight of the century. We had been hunting since right after dark. Saw less than a dozen Gators. Most of them were this year's model or last year's. Nothing legal at all. Spotted 2 at about 500 yards that appeared to be legal so we start easing up on them and they just dropped on us. Very skittish. I forgot my rod with 100 lb test line and a 12/0 treble hook, so we let them stay where they were and went on looking.
