The B.C. hunting and
trapping regulations for 2006-07 are now available online, through Service BC
Government Agents' offices, and stores where hunting and trapping licences are
sold, Environment Minister Barry Penner announced today.
Regional
hunting and trapping regulations may change from year to year to address
conservation and safety concerns, and to allow expanded opportunities where
wildlife populations warrant it.
The regulations are based on
science, using the best data available and are published in the British
Columbia Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis.
Major regulation changes are
detailed on Page 2 of the synopsis. For changes specific to a region, check the
map notation on the front page of the section for that region.
It is estimated that resident and
non-resident hunters and trappers spend more than $100 million each year in
B.C., providing a significant boost to provincial and regional economies.
There are approximately 84,000
residents and 5,000 non-residents who hunt in B.C. each year. There are about
3,000 trappers.
The electronic version of the
synopsis is available online at: www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wild/synopsis.htm
