In October 2008, the Echubby Lake Hunting Club deeded the Coal Pile Lake area to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The lake is located approximately 15 miles east of Dumas near the community of Pendleton on the Arkansas River.
Under the terms of the deed, Echubby Lake Hunting Club stipulated that no hunting was to be allowed on the properties deeded to the commission. Honoring the terms of the deed, the AGFC has designated the Coal Pile Lake area as a waterfowl rest area. No hunting of any kind will be allowed, including archery hunting. Fishing, wildlife viewing and photography and all other recreational activities approved by the Commission will be permitted.
Commission personnel, along with assistance from Echubby Lake Hunting Club, are currently installing waterfowl rest area signs around the perimeter to clearly define the boundaries of the property deeded to the AGFC. The no hunting regulation on this property will be covered under an Emergency Proclamation Closure ratified by the Commission at its Nov. 20 meeting.
The emergency closure will be good for 120 days while the standard regulation process runs its natural course. The emergency closure will be in effect during the beginning of the waterfowl season on Nov. 22, 2008.
Outdoorsmen visiting the Coal Pile Lake area should be aware that all wooded tracts of land immediately east and north of the Coal Pile area belong to Echubby Lake Hunting Club and are not public lands. Numerous signs will be in place to indicate the boundaries of the property deeded to the AGFC.
Anyone entering onto Echubby Lake Hunting Club property will be subject to state laws and regulations pertaining to trespassing. The AGFC also will erect signs at key access points around the Coal Pile Lake area to eliminate any potential misunderstandings by the public.
