Alberta Quota Hunt for Antlerless Deer in February
Alberta

Posted on: 01/26/07 [Comments?]

The Government of Alberta is presenting a quota hunt for antlerless white-tailed and mule deer in response to concerns about large deer populations that pose a problem for local agricultural producers by eating stored hay and livestock feed. The quota hunt is from February 4 - March 4, 2007, in part of WMU 526, near Bear Canyon.

Bear Canyon is about 90 km northwest of Fairview. The west edge of the quota hunt area is about 1.6 km from Alberta's border with British Columbia. All hunters must obtain permission when hunting on private land or on leases.

The 150 hunting licences available are limited to Alberta residents. Each licence will allow a hunter to harvest four antlerless white-tailed or mule deer. Licences cost $9 plus GST and sales begin February 1 at the 450 private licence issuers located throughout the province.

Long Range Manitoba Coyote
Most days, a typical coyote hunt for me consists of what seems like endless treks through knee-deep snow, and countless stands spent blowing on hand calls of some sort. Coyote hunting for me has always been about trying to entice the weariest of prey to come out and "play," or for a free meal. This story is of a totally different coyote hunting technique that kind of presented itself, I had no part in calling or enticing my prey on this certain morning, although I tried desperately.
