2003 CWD Survey
Government of Alberta

Posted on: 10/17/03 [Comments?]

The 2003 annual survey for CWD is targetting Wildlife Management Units in central and eastern Alberta only. A poster has been distributed to licence vendors and other outlets around the province, and particularly in the target areas. Hunters in these areas are asked to drop off mature elk or deer heads (NOT calves or fawns) at any district office of the Fish and Wildlife Division, Alberta Sustainable Resource Development during business hours.

You can also drop off heads at any one of several 24-hour freezers set up throughout these areas (see map handout). Details about chronic wasting disease and the provincial surveillance program are available from the wildlife diseases web site and a brochure. Additional information is also available on the news release.

Florida Axis Buck Hunt
I went on an Axis Buck hunt on the Razor Ranch here in Florida. This ranch has 15,000 acres. We started out early morning. But winds kept shifting on us and we got busted by the Axis deer. Finally we saw a huge buck around 2 pm. After we stalked with in shooting range, I was ready for my shot.
