Alaska DF&G Moose Workshop Jan. 13
Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game

Posted on: 01/11/08 [Comments?]

A moose management workshop will be jointly hosted by the Fairbanks Fish and Game Advisory Committee and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game on Sunday, January 13, 2008, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm in the Binkley Room at Pikes Waterfront Lodge.

Biologists and other staff from ADF&G will present current information about intensive management, moose habitat, fire ecology, nutritional status, movements, counting moose, and management strategies for Units 20A and 20B. Questions are welcome after each presentation and at the end of the day.

Anyone interested in moose is invited. There is no charge to attend.

The Fairbanks Advisory Committee has closely monitored moose management in Ubit 20 for many years.

"This year we have heard from many hunters who diagree with the current managment scheme, particularly antlerless moose harvests," said Fairbanks Advisory Committee Chairman Mike Kramer. "At this all day workshop we have requested that the department thoroughly explain the various biological components of the current managment scheme and then respond to all questions and concerns from the public. We expect the program to be neutral, informative and entertaining."

If you have a question about the workshop, call Mike Kramer at 458-7968 or Rite St. Louis at 459-7263.

The Curse of Poncho: Colorado Mule Deer Hunt
The boys are back in town, the boys are back in town, you remember the lyrics to that old 80's song. Ok, maybe my age is starting to show. Just like every previous Fall, a bachelor group of bucks would show up in the hay fields around the first week of August. They would number anywhere from twelve to twenty-six bucks and range from dink spikers to mature 180+ class big daddy rabbits. We would start patterning them and setting our blinds and stands in anticipation of the archery opener in late August.
