Alaska 2010-2011 Season App Period Through Dec 31st
Alaska Department of Fish and Game

Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is implementing changes to the permit hunt application system.

The application period for all Tier I, Tier II and drawing hunts is occurring now, from November 1 through December 31. You must apply now for all hunts that occur in the spring and fall of 2010 and spring of 2011. This change extends the application period to two months and allows for an earlier release of results providing more time for hunt preparation and planning. Results which were previously released mid-July will be released in late March.

If you miss the December 15 deadline for mail in applications, you will still have an additional two weeks to apply online. Online applications will be accepted until December 31.

This change was highlighted in the May 2009 drawing supplement and on the back page of the Tier I/II supplement.

In addition, the division has begun assigning customer service numbers (CSN) to each hunt applicant. More than 13,000 numbers have been currently assigned and hunters recently received a letter in the mail notifying them of their number.

Last year, a new bonus point system for specific drawing hunts was adopted by the Board of Game, but the system for implementation is still being developed. The customer service number is a vital part of this new system which will be instituted over the next few years.

Long Range Manitoba Coyote
Most days, a typical coyote hunt for me consists of what seems like endless treks through knee-deep snow, and countless stands spent blowing on hand calls of some sort. Coyote hunting for me has always been about trying to entice the weariest of prey to come out and "play," or for a free meal. This story is of a totally different coyote hunting technique that kind of presented itself, I had no part in calling or enticing my prey on this certain morning, although I tried desperately.
