Hunters Help the Hungry 11/18/05
Alabama hunters again have the opportunity to help others while they enjoy their outdoor pursuits. The Hunters Helping the Hungry program provides a way that Alabama hunters can give thousands of pounds of ground venison to needy families and individuals in the state. Since the program’s beginning in 2000, approximately 229,000 pounds of ground venison have been donated to Alabama Food Banks in the state. [Comments?]

Buck Harvest Restriction Plan Implemented for Barbour County 06/17/05
The Conservation Advisory Board endorsed a public request to implement a five-year buck harvest restriction plan for Barbour County, beginning with the 2005-06 season. The new regulation will restrict buck deer harvest to those with a minimum of three or more antler points on one main beam. [Comments?]
Second Annual State Archery Championship 04/12/05
The second annual “National Archery in the Schools Program” State Championship will be held April 26 at the Autauga County Agricultural Arena in Autaugaville from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Approximately 550 students enrolled in 16 schools from Huntsville to Mobile will compete. [Comments?]
Turkey Decoy Regulations 03/16/05
Beginning this year, it is legal for hunters to use non-mechanical, non-electronic decoys for turkey hunting during the spring turkey season. The Alabama Conservation Advisory Board adopted a regulation allowing certain types of decoys to be used. [Comments?]
Over 100,000 Acres Protected by Forever Wild Land Trust 02/18/05
Alabama’s Forever Wild Land Trust acquisitions now total 107,000 acres, land which might otherwise be commercially developed or kept in private hands. Acreage in the program is used for the most common groups of outdoor interests: nature preserves, additions to state parks, outdoor recreational areas and wildlife management areas for public hunting. Ninety-three percent of the total Forever Wild acreage is available for public hunting. [Comments?]
Youth Turkey Hunts Scheduled 02/12/05
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announces that on Saturday, March 12, a week before the regular starting date of spring turkey season, young hunters will have an opportunity to hunt turkey during special hunts held at some WMAs throughout the state. [Comments?]
Big Oak Physically Disabled Hunting Area 01/10/05
A new hunting area has been added to Alabama’s Hunting and Fishing Trail for People with Physical Disabilities. The Big Oak Physically Disabled Area is a segment of the Choccolocco Wildlife Management Area in Cleburne County. [Comments?]
New Hunting Area Available for Disabled 12/01/04
The Dozier Hunting Area for People with Physical Disabilities, located in southern Crenshaw County near Dozier, is now in operation. The 510-acre hunting area is a cooperative, joint effort of the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Alabama Department of Transportation. Rhode Island Youth Turkey Hunt Success
Well it's that time of year and in the state of Rhode Island a 2 day junior season was offered 4/26 and 4/27. On opening day 4/26, 13 year old Wyatt Detonnancourt hit the woods with his dad and managed to hit the call and bag this 16 3/4 pound 10" bearded gobbler, sporting 1" plus spurs. Not bad for his first day out!
