T/C Triumph Bone Collector Muzzleloader Review 09/10/09
Mike Waddell says Thompson Center's new .50 Cal. Triumph Bone Collector is, "the baddest muzzleloader in the land!" I've gotta say, when I hear claims like this, I have to see for myself what all the fuss is about. So I picked one up and headed to the range. It's no secret, New Hampshire-based Thompson/Center Arms has taken the firearms market by storm in recent years. Born in 1965, T/C has been around for over four decades and, many believe they now make some of the finest firearms in the world today. [Comments?]
3 Great Choices for Your Child's First Firearm 07/19/09
When introducing a kid to hunting, one of the most important elements to ensuring their success and enjoyment is providing them with the proper equipment - specifically the gun that they use. At a minimum, the child should be able to handle the gun safely, shoulder it properly, and of course shoot it without taking off a shoulder or knocking them down! The last thing you want to do is start a kid out with them too much gun or a gun that doesn't fit properly and cause them to become "gun shy." In this article we review the Keystone Arms Crickett .22LR, New England Firearms Single Shot .243 and Mossberg 500 Super Bantam 20 Gauge Shotgun. [Comments?]
The ShadowShield Predator Blind Review 06/16/09
I began hunting in the 1980's and camouflage choices basically consisted of military camo or the original TreebarkĀ® pattern. Although both helped in certain situations, I spent many hours in the woods thinking about how to hide better. The trees, the forest floor and the brush piles all had their own unique colors. The idea of having to be right next to a tree to blend in was too limiting. Recently I was introduced to The ShadowShield, a line of portable, mirrored blinds. I was excited to find out if it worked as good as it sounded. [Comments?]
Alpen Optics Review: Products Worth Looking Into 05/27/09
Alpen Optics, a company that promises quality, value and performance from their optical products. Today to a value conscious and informed consumer, putting those three words together and having them all be true seems a bit far fetched, but Alpen has done it. Based on all the product awards they have been winning from national outdoor magazines, I'm not alone in my thinking. What you are about to read in this review details my first contact with Alpen products and my initial thoughts about them, and explains why this outdoorsman/outdoor writer with over forty years in the field has replaced "all" of his high priced more advertised optics with Alpen products.
