The National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, will kick off its nationwide series of Firearms Retailer Education Seminars on April 10 in West Columbia, S.C.
NSSF will sponsor a total of seven retailer education seminars this year. The seminars provide federally licensed firearms retailers (FFLs) with guidance and education on the rules and regulations governing the sale and transfer of firearms. The free seminars are only for FFLs and their employees.
"Firearms retailers and their employees have told us these seminars are invaluable for keeping current on regulations and issues that affect their businesses," said Randy Clark, NSSF's managing director of business development. "We encourage all firearms retailers to attend when a seminar comes to their area of the country."
Seminar presenters will include Wally Nelson, a retired ATF deputy assistant director with 33 years of experience who has for the last six years brought his expertise to firearms industry members as a private consultant; Nick Scouffas, recently retired from ATF where he focused on inspections, licensing and compliance related to firearms retailers; and Fred Gerlach, also recently retired from ATF for which he supervised compliance inspections.
NSSF staff will be joined by officials of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in presenting a full agenda of topics, including regulatory requirements, individuals prohibited from possessing firearms, how to recognize and prevent illegal straw purchases, firearms tracing, the electronic form 4473, inventory security and understanding NICS services and processes.
The seminar in West Columbia will run from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn and Suites at Columbia Airport on 110 McSwain Drive. Those FFLs interested in attending may register by contacting Cathy Walker at 203-426-1320 or emailing email@example.com or registering online at www.nssf.org/retailers/seminars .
NSSF Firearms Retailer Education Seminars also are scheduled for Syracuse, N.Y., on May 23, and Las Vegas, Nev., on June 20, with others to be announced at a later date.
