I got my first archery buck this year, on my birthday! It started with a boring conference, being a school principal I routinely have to attend meetings, conferences, seminars etc....I was able to get out after the morning session and headed straight up the mountain. I am lucky enough to have a few private land permissions and was able to get out on one small parcel. I parked my car and headed up to my spot.
Once I was there, I settled in and waited, as I was watching the trail 20 yards out, I noticed movement to my right, a buck was walking on a trail just 6 yards from where I was sitting. I wasn't in a ground blind, just sitting behind a shrub. He looked right at me, I pretended to be a bush. It must have worked because he kept on to about 15 yards and broadside...I drew, the shrub still blocking my shot. He took 3 steps and I fired, double lung...he took off down the hill. I had never practiced shooting from the "indian-style" seated postion before! I found him just 300 yards from the car. I am addicted to archery now!
