Elk Hunt Expanded In Bancroft Area, Ontario

McGuinty Government Committed To Sustainable Elk Population

Ontario is extending its elk hunt in the Bancroft area from one week to two weeks this year, running from September 17 to 30.

Due to the successful restoration efforts of the Ontario government and its partners, elk have made a comeback in the province. The elk population is particularly strong in the Bancroft region, which last year supported the first elk hunt in Ontario since elk were reintroduced more than 10 years ago.

A call to Saskatchewan's Turn In Poachers (TIP) line has resulted in the conviction of three men from Kinistino, Saskatchewan for shooting three moose out of season and leaving one to waste.

On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, in the Melfort Provincial Court, Jade Marion was fined $2,360 under The Wildlife Act for unlawful hunting and under The Wildlife Regulations for wasting game. Michael Gardipy and Robin Moostoos were fined $280 each under The Wildlife Regulations for leaving game to waste.

Nonresident Montana Big Game and Elk Combo Hunting Licenses Available

Nonresidents can now purchase Montana big game and elk combination hunting licenses online or over-the-counter at any Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks office. The licenses, good for antlered deer and elk in most hunting districts, can be used during the archery and general hunting seasons.

“We have about 1,700 nonresident big game and 2,150 elk combination hunting licenses available for this hunting season,” said Hank Worsech, the licensing section chief for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in Helena.
