South Dakota Elk, Bighorn and Deer Seasons Finalized

The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Commission has finalized the 2011 Elk Hunting Seasons.

The Archery Elk Season will have 89 "any elk" and 37 "antlerless elk" licenses this year.

The Black Hills Firearm Elk Season will have 470 "any elk" and 395 "antlerless elk" licenses in 2011.

The Firearm Prairie Elk Season will have 49 "any elk" and 79 "antlerless elk" this year.

Missouri Youth Turkey Season on Par with 2010

Fortune smiled on young hunters during Missouri's spring youth firearms turkey season April 9 and 10, enabling them to shoot an impressive 3,898 turkeys.

This was the second year in a row of warm, sunny weather for the youth season, encouraging hunters age 6 through 15 to spend plenty of time pursuing gobblers. This year's harvest was nearly identical to last year's figure of 3,945. Top counties for this year's youth season were Franklin with 101 turkeys checked, Wright and Callaway with 77 each and Polk County with 75.

Louisiana Youth - Hunter of the Year Award Opportunity

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and the Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association (LOWA) are encouraging hunters 15 years of age or younger to enter the 2010 Youth Hunter of the Year competition.

The contest requires youth hunters to submit a story about their hunting experience along with photographs of the hunt. LDWF and LOWA will then select a male and female youth hunter of the year based upon the stories and photos that are received.

Kentucky Offers Exemption Permit for Youth Hunters

Hunters required to complete a hunter education course to legally be in the field, but who haven't had time to get their orange card, don't have to miss Kentucky's spring turkey season April 16 through May 8.

Kentucky's hunter apprentice opportunity – the Temporary Hunter Education Exemption Permit – allows a person otherwise required to carry a course completion card to use the one-time, one-year exemption instead. Hunter education is mandatory when a hunter turns 12 years old, and includes those born on or after Jan. 1, 1975.

West Virginia Turkey Season Set to Open April 25th

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) encourages hunters to get their gear ready for the upcoming spring gobbler hunting season. The four-week season opens Monday, April 25, and closes on Saturday, May 21, according to Curtis I. Taylor, chief of the Wildlife Resources Section. Hunters may kill two bearded turkeys during the season but are allowed only one per day.

Applications for Oklahoma's Annual Wildlife Youth Camp - Due April 15th

Teenagers have until April 15 to apply for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation's annual Wildlife Youth Camp.

The popular camp is slated for July 10-15, and youth who attend will learn about rewarding careers that focus on managing wildlife for the future.

The youth camp, which is held at Oklahoma University Biological Station at Lake Texoma and open to Oklahoma residents, introduces youth age 14-16 to careers in wildlife-related fields and increases their awareness of conserving and managing Oklahoma's wildlife resources.

Maryland Junior Hunter Field Day - April 30th

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has partnered with local conservation groups to present a Central Maryland Junior Hunter Field Day from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Baltimore County Game and Fish Association in Parkville.

Vermont's 2011 White-tail Deer Seasons Confirmed

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department announces that dates for the 2011 white-tailed deer hunting seasons have been confirmed.

Dates for archery and muzzleloader seasons were intentionally omitted from the 2011 Vermont Hunting, Fishing & Trapping Laws and Guide because the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Board was considering adding an additional October muzzleloader and archery seasons at the time the guide was being printed. The Board voted not to implement any season changes.

Wyoming Youth Hunter Challenge Deadline - April 29th

Young hunters are reminded that the deadline to sign up for the Wyoming State National Rifle Association Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) is a little over a month away. Actual deadline is April 29. The challenge will take place Saturday, May 14, at the Upton Gun Club.

It is sponsored by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Hunter Education Program, Upton Gun Club and Weston County Friends of the NRA.

Oklahoma Youth Turkey Weekend - April 2-3

Youth who would like to go turkey hunting have a unique opportunity April 2-3, when young hunters have a chance to hunt turkeys before anybody else this spring. They just need an adult who will take them.

The fifth annual youth spring turkey season is open to hunters under 18 years of age who are accompanied by an adult, and youth may harvest one tom turkey to count toward their county and regular spring season harvest limit.
