The Kansas Hunter Education Instructor Association invites hunters 18 and younger to compete in an essay contest, with prizes awarded to winners in two categories: 13 and younger, and 14 through 18.

The assigned topic for the essay contest is "My Responsibilities as a Hunter." Each entrant must have successfully completed a Kansas hunter education course, and must include his or her age and hunter education certificate number with the entry. Essays should be 500 to 600 words in length, and should address a hunter's responsibilities to wildlife, game laws, landowners, other hunters, and non-hunters. Contestants will be judged on originality, content and the ability to portray a positive image of hunting and the shooting sports. Winners in each age category will be awarded new muzzleloading rifles.

All entries must be received no later than Nov. 15, 2003, and should be mailed to: KHEIA Essay Contest, c/o Rick Schumock, 2201 S. Bonn, Wichita, KS 67213.
