Wyoming Non-Resident Elk Drawing Completed
The 2008 drawing for nonresident elk licenses has been completed with 7,250 elk licenses issued to nonresident hunters. A total of 20,167 hunters applied for licenses through the drawing.
License draw manager Aaron Pelto said the online application process continues to be popular with 62 percent, or more than 12,300 of the applications, received through the online application on the Game and Fish Web site.
In the next several weeks, hunters will be receiving either their elk license or, if unsuccessful, their refund through the mail. Hunters who wish to find out their success in the drawing prior to mail notification can call the Game and Fish at (307) 777-4600 or look up their results on the Game and Fish Web site.
The next major application deadline is normally March 15 for nonresident deer and antelope. However, since March 15 this year is on a Saturday, the Game and Fish will accept applications on the next business day, March 17. Nonresident deer and antelope applications must be received by 5 p.m. on that date.
In addition, deer hunters interested in applying for nonresident Region W should be aware that hunt area 84 within that region is now a general license area. The area was inadvertently listed as a limited quota area on the map in the nonresident application booklet. For the past number of years, area 84 has been limited quota, requiring hunters who wanted to hunt that area to apply specifically for unit 84. However, nonresidents who now wish to hunt that area only need to list Region W on their application.
