Wyoming Game and Fish Department Revises Gray Wolf Management Plan, Accepting Comments
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has drafted an addendum to the approved Wyoming Gray Wolf Management Plan. The draft addendum is available here.
In September 2011, after a public comment period, the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission approved changes to its Gray Wolf Management Plan. Subsequently, in October, the US Fish and Wildlife Service published a notice in the Federal Register of their intent to delist wolves in Wyoming.
The draft addendum to Wyoming's Gray Wolf Management Plan provides additional clarification and detail about the WGFD's approach to managing wolves. The draft addendum contains more details about specific management authority for wolves in different jurisdictions in Wyoming; additional commitments to manage wolves above minimum recovery levels to ensure an adequate buffer; clarification of how Wyoming's adaptive management framework will be used to ensure a recovered wolf population; information about techniques for monitoring and managing wolf genetics; and an explanation of how Wyoming will track and manage wolf mortality.
Deadline for public comments is 5 p.m. March 19, 2012. Comments will be accepted online at the WGFD website or in writing at:
