Moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat hunters probably need no reminder, but the application deadline to apply for licenses is less than a month away.

If hunters are only interested in obtaining a preference point and not applying for a license for the 2009 hunt, the preference point application period is July 1-Sept. 30.

This year, the moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat deadline will be Mar. 2 since the established Feb. 28 deadline falls on a weekend. If traditional deadlines fall on weekends and holidays when the Cheyenne headquarters is closed for normal business hours, applications received by 5 p.m. on the next business day are accepted as meeting the application deadline.

Several other deadlines will also be extended this year due to the deadline dates falling on a weekend. These include the nonresident deadline for deer and antelope which will be Mar. 16 instead of Mar. 15 and residents, who normally have the month of May to apply for limited quota elk, deer and antelope, will have until June 1 to get in their applications.

Applications may be made through the mail or on line by accessing the Game and Fish Web site. Applications may also be obtained on the Game and Fish Web site or at license agents and Game and Fish offices. Residents are reminded that their application period for elk, deer and antelope doesn't begin until May 1. Hunters with questions on the application process can call the Game and Fish at (800) 842-1934 (in state) or (307) 777-4600.
