Ohio's Young Hunters Get Results During Special Two-Day Deer Hunt
Young hunters across Ohio enjoyed success during the eighth annual Youth Deer-Gun Season, held Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. 
 
Hunters aged 17 and under, harvested 8,681 deer during the special two-day season, as compared to 8,445 last year.
Missouri's November Deer Harvest Tops Last Year’s Figure

Hunters checked 190,089 deer during Missouri’s 11-day November firearms deer hunt, slightly surpassing last year’s figure despite a slow start on opening weekend.

Extremely windy weather, combined with reduced deer populations in some areas, dropped the opening-weekend harvest 10,000 below the 2010 figure. Hunters persevered, however, and more than made up lost ground in the following nine days of the November hunt. In the end, they harvested 1,884 more than last year, a 1-percent increase.

Ohio Pickerel Creek Will Hold Youth Muzzleloader Deer Hunts

A lottery card drawing will be held for youth muzzleloader deer hunts on January 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2012 in portions of the State Wildlife Refuge on the Pickerel Creek Wildlife Area according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. 

Five Men Charged after Night of Poaching in Vermont

Vermont State Game Wardens have charged five men in connection with a deer poaching spree that occurred on the evening of Saturday, October 22nd and continued into the early morning of Sunday the 23rd.

After a lengthy investigation, meat from illegal deer was seized from three residences in Bristol Village. Also retained were several deer hides, tools, an electric chainsaw used to cut up the deer, three rifles, and the head of a 7-point buck that was shot illegally. The three rifles used by the poachers were a .22, a 30-30 and a 30-06.

White-tailed Deer Harvested Near Cody, Wyoming Tests Positive for CWD

A white-tailed deer harvested on Oct. 15 in deer hunt area 165 in the Bighorn Basin has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD), a brain disease known to affect some deer, elk, and moose. The deer was harvested near the Greybull River.

CWD is a fatal neurological disease of deer, elk, and moose and with the discovery of the deer in this hunt area, 15of the 39 deer areas in the Big Horn Basin are known CWD areas.

Hunters Ready for Start of Six-day Firearm Deer Season in New Jersey

Garden State hunters are finalizing plans and gearing up for the December 5 start of New Jersey's Six-day Firearm Season for deer. The Six-day or traditional "buck" season runs this year through December 10, and will provide great memories and countless hours of excitement for sportsmen and sportswomen throughout New Jersey.

New Hampshire Hunting Season Update

New Hampshire’s regular firearms deer hunting is going well, as hunters look forward to time afield during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.  Through November 13, 2011, hunters had taken an estimated 6,653 deer in New Hampshire, very similar to the 6,729 registered at this point in the 2010 season.

Number of Hunters, Big-game Success Improves in Montana

The number of hunters who stopped at south central Montana check stations over the weekend and the number of harvested animals picked up substantially from earlier dates.

Clear, cold, windless weather with snow on the ground in all corners of the region brought hunters to the field.

After last weekend’s historic lows at the three Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 5 check stations, the number of hunters and game checked Nov. 19 and 21 was welcomed by biologists.

November Season Previews Deer Prospects in Iowa

Hunters stepping into the field this weekend will provide a preview of deer hunting prospects during Iowa’s December shotgun seasons. The November season — the Friday, Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving and only on private property — is to reduce the number of antlerless deer, helping the state reduce herd numbers to mid to late 1990s levels.

Hunters in Illinois harvested a preliminary total of 66,501 deer during the opening weekend of the 2011 Illinois Firearm Deer season on Nov. 18-20, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) announced today.  The seven-day firearm season will conclude on Dec. 1-4.
