Utah Wildlife Board Pushing for Removal of Wolf From Endangered Species List

The Utah Wildlife Board wants gray wolves removed from the Endangered Species list through federal legislation.

The board consists of seven citizens appointed by the governor. Setting polices that guide the management of wildlife in Utah is their main responsibility.

Utah Deer Hunt Only 3 Days Long in 5 Units

If you're going to hunt deer on any of the following units in Utah, remember that this fall's rifle hunt ends on Oct. 25, 2010.

That's right; the following units in the following regions are open for only three days of rifle deer hunting this year:

Utah Puts Deer and Elk Season Changes on Hold

Members of the Utah Wildlife Board want hunters to see more buck deer during Utah's general hunts.

That goal has led the Division of Wildlife Resources to put on hold big game hunting ideas it's shared with hunters over the past several months.

Instead, the DWR will present some new ideas. The goal of these ideas is to increase the number of bucks per 100 does on Utah's general-season units.

To increase the number of bucks per 100 does, fewer people would be allowed to hunt in some areas of the state.

Utah Bull Elk Permits Still Available

Permits to hunt bull elk in Utah this fall are almost gone.

Permits are still available to hunt bull elk in Utah this fall. But the permits are going fast.

The following general elk permits were still available on the morning of Sept. 13, 2010:

The general rifle bull elk hunt starts Oct. 9, 2010. Last fall, permits sold out before the hunt started.

Utah Cougar Rules Proposed for 3 Years

If you're interested in Utah's cougars, pay attention to the Division of Wildlife Resource's latest cougar hunting proposals—they'll be in effect for the next three years.

"Keeping the hunting rules and permit numbers consistent will give our efforts to manage cougars more time to work," says Kevin Bunnell, mammals coordinator for the DWR. "And that will result in future recommendations that will be best for the cougars and for the animals the cougars prey on."

Utah Antlerless Results to be E-mailed July 14th

If you're one of the more than 27,000 hunters who applied for an antlerless big game hunting permit for this fall, watch your e-mail closely on July 14, 2010.

If you supplied the Division of Wildlife Resources with an e-mail address, you'll receive an e-mail letting you know if you drew a permit.

Addt'l Youth Archery Deer Permits Available in Utah

If you'll be 18 years of age or younger on Aug. 21, 2010 you can still get a permit to hunt buck deer in Utah this fall. Starting at 7 a.m. on July 8, 2010 a total of 1,500 general statewide archery buck deer permits will go on sale.
