Turkeys are known for their acute sense of sight. Many a hunter swears the gobbler busted them because they blinked their eyes. Unfortunately, turkey hunters aren’t blessed with such vision. That may be one of the reasons that nationally, wild turkey hunting has the highest shooting accident rate per hunter.
TPWD Proposing More Eastern Turkey Hunting
Turkey hunters in East Texas could be looking at a month-long spring season and opportunities in additional counties beginning in 2005 if proposals by state wildlife biologists pass muster.
Turkey Permit Apps Available
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks has announced that permit applications for the spring turkey season are online and available to download from the internet. Both resident and nonresident permits for units 1, 2, and 3 will be available over the counter at Department of Wildlife and Parks offices and select license vendors by mid-February. The season runs April 14-May 31.

Hunters are alerted applications for nonresident elk and resident/nonresident bison and spring turkey must be received at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Cheyenne office by 5 p.m. Feb. 2.
Wild Turkey Expo Set for Feb. 28
The California Department of Fish and Game (DFG), in cooperation with Wilderness Unlimited (WU) and the National Wild Turkey Federation will sponsor the seventh annual Wild Turkey Expo. The turkey-hunting seminar will be on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church, 11427 Fair Oaks Blvd., Fair Oaks, CA.

Even though upland game and waterfowl seasons will soon be coming to an end, hunters need not despair because now is the time to put in applications for the record number of tags that are available for this year’s spring wild turkey hunts.
Spring Turkey Hunting Applications Available
State conservation officials today reminded hunters the application period for the 2004 spring wild turkey hunting season is Jan. 1 through Feb. 1, 2004. The spring hunting season runs April 19 through May 31, with various hunting periods ranging in length from seven to 28 days.
