North Dakota's Tentative 2012 Season Opening Dates

To help North Dakota hunters make vacation plans and lodging reservations for hunting seasons in 2012, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department annually provides tentative opening dates for the coming year.

Some popular hunting seasons will have opening day arrive nearly a week later in 2012 due to the calendar change. For example, opening day of pheasant season is always the second Saturday in October, which in 2012 is Oct. 13. Therefore, nonresidents will not be able to hunt on state wildlife management areas or Private Land Open To Sportsmen acres from Oct. 13-20.

California DFG Offers One-day Turkey Hunting Clinic in February
The Department of Fish and Game’s (DFG) Advanced Hunter Education Program is offering a turkey hunting clinic Feb. 18 at Tejon Ranch in Kern County.
New West Virginia Senior Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License Available

The new Senior Lifetime Hunting, Trapping and Fishing License, which becomes effective January 1, 2012, is now available for purchase, according to DNR Director Frank Jezioro.  The one-time fee for the Class XS License is $25.

Some Popular Montana Hunting And Fishing Remains Open

Hunting for pheasants, sharp-tailed grouse, partridge and turkey continues until Jan. 1, 2012. Hunting for mountain grouse closed Dec. 15.

Depending on the flyway, duck hunting continues into January, closing on Jan. 5 in the Central Flyway and Jan. 13 in the Pacific Flyway. Goose hunting and falconry continue in the Central and Pacific flyways until Jan. 13. Swan hunting in the Pacific flyway is closed, but swan may be hunted in the Central Flyway until Jan. 5.

2012 Louisiana Turkey Regulations And Lottery Hunt Applications Now Available

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ (LDWF) 2012 Turkey Regulations pamphlet is now available. Hunters can obtain the pamphlet at any hunting license vendor outlet or via the LDWF website.

Tennessee 2012 Spring Turkey Quota Hunts Application Period Dec. 14-Feb. 8

Applications for the 2012 Spring Turkey Quota Hunts will be accepted Dec. 14, 2011, through Feb. 8, 2012, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced.

Minnesota Spring Turkey Hunting Applications Accepted Through Jan. 13

Twelve expanded permit areas will offer wild turkey hunters more flexibility and opportunity when they apply for the 2012 spring wild turkey hunt, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) said.

“Wild turkey permit areas have been consolidated into 12 new, larger areas from 77 smaller ones,” said Steve Merchant, DNR wildlife population and regulation program manager. “While Minnesota’s overall turkey range remains the same, larger geographic areas in which to hunt provide more choice within a single permit area.”

Late-Season Hunting Opportunities End Soon in North Dakota

Late-season hunters still have time to get out in the field and enjoy North Dakota’s deer, waterfowl, upland game, turkey, small game and furbearer opportunities.

The Blue Mountain chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host a Women in the Outdoors event on March 10, 2012 at Cabela's in Hamburg, Pennsylvania.

Ohio Fall Turkey Season Concludes

Ohio's fall wild turkey season ended November 27 with hunters bagging 1,375 during the seven-week season. Ashtabula County led the state with 67 birds taken, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. Last year’s harvest total was 1,425.

The 2011 fall turkey season ran from October 8 through November 27 allowing hunters to pursue a wild turkey of either sex using a shotgun, muzzleloading shotgun, bow or crossbow in 48 counties in the state.
