Tennessee Archery Deer Opener Saw Increase in Harvest

Tennessee's deer archery hunters saw an increase in their harvest from 2009 on the opening weekend of the 2010 season. A total of 2,401 deer were taken, an increase of 163, with all 95 counties reporting harvests.

Montgomery County led the opening weekend (Sept. 25-26) totals with 75 harvests, edging the 2009 leader, Giles County’s reporting total of 72.

Other top county totals were Stewart 68, Roane 61, Henry 59, Smith 55, Maury 50, Jackson 49, Sumner 48, Hardeman and Hamilton 46, Carter and Wilson 45.

Tennessee Archery Deer Season Kicks Off Sept. 25th

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency expects bowhunters to be out in force for Tennessee's 2010 archery deer hunting season which kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 25.

The deer archery season will again be divided into three segments statewide this year. The first segment runs from Sept. 25-Oct. 29 while the remaining two will be Nov. 1-5, and Dec. 6-17.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has announced the drawing results have been released for the Wildlife Management Area (WMA) 2010 Big Game Quota Hunts.

Wildlife Violators Compact Helps Jail Repeat Offender

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officers recently made history in the state utilizing the Wildlife Violator's Compact. A Bradley County man received jail time after he violated his Tennessee wildlife violation probation by fishing in another state.

On July 8, Kurt Wesley Ellis, 31, of Cleveland, pled guilty to the charge he violated his probation by fishing in Georgia. He received two consecutive 364-day jail terms in Bradley County with credit for time served up to that point in both states.

The July 21 deadline to apply for all Wildlife Management Area (WMA) 2010 Big Game Quota Hunts is approaching, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reminds sportsmen.

Public Input Sought in Tennessee Bear Archery Season Changes
In Thursday's (May 20) Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission meeting, action was taken during the 2010-11 hunting seasons-setting process which reduced the bear archery season to three weeks from the originally proposed five week season in Blount, Carter, Cocke, Greene, Jefferson, Johnson, Monroe, Polk, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington counties.
Tennessee WRC Set to Approve 2010-11 Seasons
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission will set the state's 2010-11 hunting seasons at its May meeting. The TWRC will meet at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Ray Bell Region II Building.
