Spring Turkey Apps Available
A record number of licenses highlight the 2004 spring wild turkey hunting season, according to Randy Kreil, wildlife chief for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department.
Game and fish will make 5,415 wild turkey licenses available, an increase of 1,705 from last year. Twenty-six of the 28 units have increases over 2003, and two remained the same. "Turkeys continue to do well in most of the state, and license numbers reflect this trend," Kreil said.
Existing spring unit boundaries have been expanded to match the fall turkey hunting units. Much of the eastern and central portions of the state, never before open to spring turkey hunting, has been designated a hunting unit. "This new unit is intended to encourage harvest and provide recreational opportunities created by isolated but growing flocks of turkeys," Kreil said.
Lottery and gratis applications are available at game and fish offices, county auditor offices and license vendors.
Persons can also apply at the game and fish internet web site, or by calling 1-800-406-6409. Access the department's web site at discovernd.com/gnf to print out or submit an application online. Regular license fees apply and no service charge is added. Persons applying by telephone will have a $4 service fee added.
Applications for the spring season must be postmarked no later than Feb. 11. Only North Dakota residents are eligible to apply. The spring turkey season runs from April 10 through May 9.
