Spring Turkey Application Deadline
Only a few days remain for hunters to submit an application for South Dakota’s first 2005 spring turkey drawing.
"Residents and nonresidents who want a chance for spring turkey license in the first drawing need to have their paper application postmarked no later than Friday, Feb. 25 or apply online before midnight on Monday, Feb. 28." said Game, Fish and Parks Information Officer John Forney.
Paper applications are available at license agents, GFP Offices and can be printed and/or downloaded from the GFP website at www.sdgfp.info. Online applicants should visit the same site, hold their cursor over the "Licenses and Reservations" and then click on the link "Apply For Limited Issue Licenses."
One application may be submitted in the first drawing per applicant per turkey season; however, only one application form is needed if applying for multiple seasons. "An example would be for a person to apply for one prairie turkey license, one Black Hills turkey license and one archery turkey license," Forney said. "With the new application form, the applicant could apply for more than one or all licenses by using just one turkey application and one payment."
Forney noted that a person is allowed only one Black Hills, one archery, and one Custer State Park (residents only) spring turkey license; however, additional prairie spring turkey licenses (up to five) can be purchased after the second drawing is completed.
South Dakota’s 2005 spring turkey seasons will open April 9 and run through May 15 in most areas. Exceptions are noted on the spring turkey application.
