Special Youth Waterfowl Hunting Day
The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission has established Feb. 1, 2003 as this season's Youth Waterfowl Day. Even though the regular waterfowl season ends on January 25, young hunters have one more chance to bag ducks, coots, mergansers and geese.
Hunting on Feb. 1 is limited to youth age 15 years or younger, accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older. The accompanying adult may not hunt. Youth must follow all regular season restrictions for waterfowl hunting, including shooting hours of one-half hour before sunrise to sunset. For bag limits, see migratory bird seasons/bag limits or call 1-800-675-0263.
Although youth do not need a hunting license, the accompanying adult must be properly licensed for waterfowl hunting, which includes a North Carolina hunting license with waterfowl privileges, HIP certification and the federal duck stamp.
All state-managed game lands are open for youth waterfowl hunting on this day, including permit-only game lands and permit-only impoundments. No permit is necessary for youth or accompanying adults on this special day. Youth may also hunt on private property with the landowner's permission.
