Special Buck Application Available
South Dakota’s 2004 special buck application is available, and contrary to information on it, special buck applicants will be able to apply online for a 2004 South Dakota special buck license. Paper special buck applications are available at most Game, Fish and Parks offices and via the GFP website at www.sdgfp.info.
"Because of the landowner information requirement for this year’s special buck application, it did not appear that the online application would be available for this license," said Division of Wildlife Communications Manager Chuck Schlueter. "However, the application has been successfully upgraded and is now available online."
The first paper application deadline for special buck is April 2, which means envelopes must be postmarked by that date. Online applicants will have up to midnight on Monday, April 5, to apply online with a credit card at www.sdgfp.info. From this webpage, click on the link to "Apply For Limited Issue Licenses" found under the subheading "Licenses and Reservations."
A total of 400 resident and 400 nonresident special buck licenses are available for the West River area, and a total of 400 resident special buck licenses are available for the East River area.
Special buck license fees cost $155 for residents and $505 for nonresidents, with revenue dedicated to a landowner depredation fund. The licenses are only valid on privately-owned land.
Successful special-buck applicants will not be eligible to apply for a regular West or East River deer license until after the second drawing. Unsuccessful special buck applicants will be given preference points for the following year's lottery.
