Special Archery Deer Hunts
The Game and Parks Commission is offering a unique deer hunting opportunity to 40 archers interested in helping reduce the deer population on 350 acres of timber bordering the Platte River in Sarpy County.
Two hunts will occur on the property in November and December. A total of 40 bowhunters will be chosen, 20 to hunt the first season, Nov. 19 - Dec. 9, and another 20 to hunt the second season, Dec. 10 - Dec. 31. Only antlerless deer will be taken. No fees will be charged to hunt the area, but the archer must possess the appropriate Nebraska 2001 deer hunting permit and a 2001 Nebraska Habitat Stamp.
Applications may be obtained at the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Office in Omaha, Omaha archery shops, or the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium. Applications must be received at the Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium no later than 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12 to be considered. Applications will be chosen in the order in which they are received on a first-come, first-served basis.
Selected archers must attend a mandatory orientation at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, on the property. Those not in attendance will not be eligible for the hunt and alternative archers will be chosen.
